Frequently Asked Questions

What are the technical requirements to use CSDIO?

You will need high-speed Internet access, video-conferencing equipment and a telephone connection to use CSDIO.

What video equipment do you recommend?

We recommend the Polycom V700 for reliable connections, crisp video and clear audio. For clients using an existing PC with a webcam, we recommend Polycom PVX software to maximize the remote interpreting experience. Whatever equipment you decide to use, when you sign up for Interpreting Online, a representative will contact you to ensure that video and audio quality meet the requirements for a quality Interpreting Online experience.

What is the recommended level of high-speed Internet access?

A minimum of 192k upload and download is necessary and we recommend 256k upload and download or more.  Upload and download capacities of 384k will provide a superior level of quality.

How long in advance do I schedule an interpreter?

We highly recommend that you schedule an interpreter at least 24 hours in advance to ensure that we are able to meet your needs and expectations.  We will accept appointments with less notice, but must charge a service fee for scheduling requests made with less than eight hours notice during office hours.

Billing and scheduling operation hours are 8 am to 5 pm Central Standard Time.

Can I request a specific CSDIO interpreter?

Yes, it is possible to request a specific interpreter.  Two weeks notice is preferred.

In what situations are two interpreters needed?

When an assignment extends for a period of two hours or longer and the interpreter is signing non-stop, a second interpreter is required.
Example when two are necessary:  A two-hour staff meeting in which the presenter is speaking throughout the entire two hours and the interpreter continues to sign without a break.

Does CSDIO provide on-demand services?

This option is not available at this time. However, we do try to accommodate last minute requests, but with no guarantees.

What is CSDIO’s cancellation policy?

There is no charge for cancellations that are made 24 hours in advance. Cancellations need to be made between 8 am and 5 pm Monday—Friday. If the assignment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, it will be billed for the entire scheduled time. If the client fails to show up for the appointment, the assignment will be billed for the entire time that was originally scheduled. If two interpreters are scheduled, this policy will apply to each interpreter scheduled.

What are CSDIO’s hours of operations?

Scheduling services are available from 8 am to 5 pm Central Standard Time, Monday through Friday.  Interpreters can be scheduled for any time, day or night all year round: 7/24/365.

What is the recommended room set-up for use of CSDIO?

Be sure the person who will be signing is within the camera’s view so the interpreter can see them clearly. We suggest that the person signing does not move excessively, as this can sometimes make it difficult for the video camera to capture their signing. It is best to sign in one place and within the camera’s view.
